Starting Your Day Right

How do you begin your day? For some people the morning starts with the loud, annoying sound of an alarm clock. Depending on how much sleep a person has had, one may wake up crabby, happy or resigned to the day. Does how you wake up become an indicator about how your day is going to go?

I know it does for me. If my morning starts off on the wrong foot, I feel like the whole day is out of kilter. The best way to impede a “bad day” mentality is to have quiet time in the morning. It gives you an opportunity to make a good start to the day by giving you the choice to do just that.

The good news is that there are several ways to do this! One way is to have a morning workout routine. This is an excellent way to clear your head and relieve stress, not to mention, it is good for your body, as well as, your soul. Your workout can be anything from a rigorous exercise routine to just taking a walk. While your body is working, your mind can also workout to prepare to face the day in a positive way.

If working out in the morning is not your thing, try taking a minimum of ten minutes in the morning to meditate, pray, or read something uplifting. It will keep you focused on a positive activity and give you a chance to make a conscious choice that you are going to make the most of your day.

And if you don’t enjoy reading, meditating or praying, try counting your blessings each morning. It’s helpful and uplifting to spend your time focusing on the good things in your life and not rehashing all the bad stuff that is polluting your life and mind. There will be days when no matter how hard you try, you won’t have time to do anything except get yourself ready and hit the road.

It’s on those days you can pop in your favorite CD in the car stereo and sing along on your way to where ever you are going. As you sing, don’t let negative thoughts intrude…just cruise down the road with an out loud and “happy refrain.” The most important thing is you are in control. Having a good day is about choice. You can choose to have a good day and a positive attitude. So choose both and get ready to have a wonderful day!

Rejoice in the LORD always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
